The region of Picardie
is made up of open fields in a hilly area with large
forests, rivers, and canals. It is a very scenic and
breathtaking area. It is both beautiful and peaceful and has
been an area of inspiration for artists. Many of the cities in
this region have retained their historic buildings.
Located on the Somme River is the town of
Abbeville. It was bombed during World War II
and has been rebuilt. Several of the town's attractions remain
including the St. Vulfran's church built during 15th, 16th, and
17th centuries.
Laon has retained many of its historic
buildings. The most important is the Cathedral Notre-Dame
of Laon. It dates from the 12th and 13th centuries.
Other cities in the region include
Saint-Quentin which has a Butterfly Museum and
displays about 20,000 of them. Soisson is one
of the most ancient towns in the country.
