Limousin is a rural region.
It is the second least populated region known for its prized
beef and oak orchards. The oak is used in wine fermentation and
is prized for its distinct character and flavors. Remy Martin
has had exclusive rights to the oak orchards for about a
hundred years.
Most of the gloves made in France are made in
the town of Saint-Junien. The town is located
in the countryside of Limousin. It is named after a hermit who performed cures from
the waters of a spring. The town is rich in architecture,
especially the Monastery of Saint Junien, a Romanesque
structure built in the 11th century.
In 1771, white clay was discovered at Saint
Yrieix-la-Perche. The ceramics industry which produces what is
known as Limoges porcelain was developed. Limoges porcelain is
a generic term used to denote porcelain that is produced in the
town of Limoges. The ceramics are not produced
at one factory but throughout the city.
