the fort and take a boat cruise on the Canal du Midi.
A major attraction in the town of
Montpellier is its botanical garden which
was created about 1593. Each summer a music festival,
Festival de Radio France et Montepllier is held. It
features classical music and jazz. There are usually about
one hundred events and most of them are free. They are
held in the courtyards around the city or in concert
halls.
One of the more popular tourist areas in this
region is the town of Nimes. There are remains
from the Roman Empire including an amphitheater which is used
as a bull fighting ring and concert arena. The area is known
for its textiles, especially denim.
