The Franche-Comte region is
in Eastern France and includes the French section of Jura
Mountain range. The region is famous for its Gruyere
cheese.
Belfort, a city located in a
gap between the Vosges and the Jura Mountains is known for the
music festival held in the city each May. The Festival
International de Musique Universitaire (FIMU) has about 2500
musicians. The students are from various countries around the
world. They give more than 250 concerts during the three day
festival. The music ranges from classical to jazz. The concerts are
free and performed at various venues in the city.
One of the most beautiful historic cities of
France is Besancon. It is near the border with
Switzerland. The art gallery is one of the best outside of
Paris. There is a lot to attract visitors to the including
museums, an aquarium, and a zoo along with numerous parks and
centers for the performing arts.
One of the oldest and most prestigious
classical music festivals is held each year in Besancon, the
Besancon Franche-Comte Music Festival. The city is host to
other music festivals such as the Musiques de Rues Festival
(street music) in October, the Franch-Comte Country Festival
(country music) in August, the Jazz en Franche-Comte Festival
in June and Herbe en Zik Festival (French rock and variety) in
May.
