Located 59 miles from Paris, Chartres is located on the left bank of the Eure River. Its main attraction is the Cathedral of Chartres (Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Chartres) which is considered to be the finest Gothic cathedral in France. It is a world heritage site. There is also a museum and workshop devoted to stained glass art, Le Centre International du Vitroil.

Between Orleans and the Atlantic coast is the city of Tours. The region around Tours is known for its wines. The area is also known as The Garden of France (Le Jardin de la France). It is famous for the old city known as Le Vieux Tours. The old part of the city has medieval half-timbered houses and a public square with pubs and restaurants. There are also weekly markets.
