Bourgogne (Burgundy) is
famous for its cuisine and its wine. It has a number of
interesting cities such as Dijon, famous for its mustard.
Auxerre is known for its local
wines including Chablis, Saint-Bris-le Vineux, and Irancy. The
city has a Gothic cathedral, St. Etienne.
The hub of the wine business in France is
Beaune. It is in the area around the Cote de
Beaune which is known for its Burgundy wines. An annual wine
sale is organized by the Hospices de Beaune.
The term Dijon Mustard designates a method for
the making of a strong mustard. The city of
Dijon is known for its mustard. The shops
feature exotic or unusually-flavored mustards.
There are a large number of churches and
cathedrals in the city and museums including one dedicated to
mustard and steak. The International Gastronomic Fair is held
here each year. The city hosts the international flower show
Florissimo every three years. During the summer, there are live
musical groups playing on the street corners throughout the
city.
There are many superb vineyards producing wines
such as Vosne-Romaner and Gervrey-Chambertin. It is also known
for "Kir," a black currant liqueur.
