Auvergne Region

The Auvergne region is filled with mountains, lakes, rivers, and gorges. Its natural beauty is breathtaking. There is a volcano in the area which feeds the natural spas. It is the perfect area for the outdoors person interested in walking, hiking, mountain climbing, swimming, and fishing.

One of the oldest cities in France is Clermont-Ferrand. It is surrounded by a chain of volcanoes, the Chaine des Puys. It is also the headquarters of the Michelin Tire Company. Attractions in the area are two famous churches. Notre-Dame du Port is a Romanesque church built during the 11th and 12th centuries. The Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral is a Gothic church built between France Auvergne Regionthe 13th and 19th centuries. The city also hosts an annual international short film festival.

Vichy lies on the banks of the Allier River which has its source in the Massif Central Mountain range. It is a spa and resort town known for its thermal cures since Roman times. The laboratories of the L'Oreal Company are located here.
