France is a republic with twenty-six regions; twenty-one are in metropolitan France, one is the island of Corscia, and four are on other continents.
- Alsace Region
The region of Alsace is located on the eastern border of France. Its capital city is Strasbourg.
- Aquitaine Region
The Aquitaine region lays along the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees mountain range on the border with Spain.

- Ile-de-France Region
The Ile de France region is mainly comprised of the city of Paris.
- Languedoc-Roussillon Region
The Languedoc-Roussillon region is wine producing country. It has more vineyards than Bordeaux.
- Limousin Region
Limousin is a rural region. It is the second least populated area known for its prized beef and oak orchards.
- Lorraine Region
The two main cities of the Lorraine region are Metz and Nancy.
- Midi-Pyrenees Region
The largest region in France, Midi-Pyrenees, was created in the late 20th century.
- Nord-Pas de la Calais Region
The Nord-Pas de la Calais region is referred to as The Ardennes and Northern Beaches.
- Pays-de-la-Loire Region
The Pays-de-la-Loire region was created in the 20th century. It means "land of the Loire River."
- Picardie Region
The region of Picardie is made up of open fields in a hilly area with large forests, rivers, and canals.
- Poitou-Charentes Region
This region, Poitou-Charentes, is believed to be the origin of most of the Arcadian and Cajun populations of North America.
- Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur Region
The region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur is commonly known as the French Riviera.
- Rhone-Alps Region
The Rhone-Alps region is located on the eastern border of the country.
